So what is an Amarok anyway?

Well... apart from being quite a beautiful beast, the bakkie is Volkswagen's entry into the one ton utility vehicle market. The name "Amarok" means "wolf" in the language of the Inuit people, who live in incredibly rugged terrain in northern Canada and Greenland. The Inuit regard the wolf as the king of the wilderness, an impressive figure due to its strength, robustness, endurance and superiority.

Amarok has quite simply, earned this name. Whether on dusty test tracks in Death Valley, in Scandinavian snow or on our engineers' test rigs, the new vehicle from Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has displayed the same proud qualities. In addition, the name means "he loves stones" in the Romance languages. Thanks to its four-wheel drive and off road capabilities, this meaning of the name also perfectly suits the Amarok.
