Audi unveils New 4.0 TFSI engine
The youngest member of the large Audi family of V engines, the 4.0 TFSI shares all of their typical characteristics. It has the classic cylinder angle of 90 degrees, the chain drive for the four camshafts and ancillary units is on the back to save space, and the cylinder case is a cast aluminum-silicon alloy. This eight-cylinder unit is very light in weight, and its highly compact construction has resulted in its length being reduced to 497 mm (19.57 in).

Audi R8 LMS wins the most important endurance race for GT cars
The Audi R8 LMS won the most important endurance race for GT cars ahead of BMW and Mercedes-Benz. Audi Sport Team WRT overcame the strongest competition during the 63rd running of the 24 hours of Spa (Belgium). The two DTM stars Mattias Ekström (Sweden) and Timo Scheider (Germany) and the Belgian endurance specialist Greg Franchi shared driving duties in the victorious mid-engine sportscar. Audi Urban Future Summit 2011
The look of the city of the future remains an unknown. It would be too simplistic to conceive it only from the perspective of an automobile maker. Audi is therefore seeking to involve international experts in the debate in the context of the Audi Urban Future Initiative. The Audi Urban Future Summit will take place on 12 th September, immediately before the 64 th International Auto Show (IAA) in Frankfurt, Germany. It will focus on the subject of “ENERGIES – What forces will change the cities of the future?”

Volkswagen searching for rally talent
In 2013 Volkswagen will start to contest the FIA World Rally Championship with the Polo R WRC. Until then a rally car with about 300 hp, based on the Polo is being developed. To gather initial experience in the World Rally Championship, the team will be contesting selected rallies in 2011 with vehicles from the Volkswagen Group’s Škoda brand. At these rounds top talents are to be given the chance to qualify for a seat in the Polo R WRC in a new talent assessment programme under competitive conditions.

Audi A1 e-tron wins Silvretta Electric Car Rally
Audi is this year’s overall winner of the second Silvretta Electric Car Rally in Austria’s Montafon region. The 2011 victory of the A1 e-tron follows the R8 e-tron’s win last year. The second Audi in the rally, a Q5 HFC with a fuel cell finished in sixth place. A total of 32 electric vehicles were evaluated.

Volkswagen Amarok drives the Rhino Protection Initiative
On the 22nd June 2011 Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles announced the sponsorship of six Volkswagen Amarok bakkies to the Rhino Protection Initiative at a media conference held at the Johannesburg Zoo. The R2-million sponsorship is part of the partnership between Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles and the Wilderness Foundation, the pioneers and administrators of the Forever Wild Rhino Protection Initiative.

The Audi e-tron Spyder at Le Mans
the Audi e-tron Spyder is fit for the racetrack. Two asynchronous electric motors drive the front wheels with a combined 64 kW (87 hp) of power and 352 Nm (259.62 lb-ft) of torque. In front of the rear axle sits a twin-turbocharged 3.0 TDI, mounted longitudinally in the direction of travel. It pumps out up to 221 kW (300 hp) of power and 650 Nm (479.42 lb-ft) of torque, which are funneled to the rear wheels via a seven-speed S tronic.

Driving without a Driver – Volkswagen presents the “Temporary Auto Pilot”
Prof. Dr. Jürgen Leohold, Executive Director Volkswagen Group Research, has presented the “Temporary Auto Pilot” by Volkswagen: Monitored by the driver, the car can drive semi-automatically up to a speed of 130 kilometres per hour on motorways. It represents a link between today’s assistance systems and the vision of fully automatic driving.
