The Little Red Classroom
Khaya Cheshire is a daytime care facility that caters to the basic healthcare, educational and dietary needs of 23 disabled children and teenagers from Walmer’s underprivileged Gqebera township. Khaya Chershire is linked to the internationally renowned Cheshire Homes organisation and has been developed with trust.
The needs of Khaya’s children are immense, and the space in which they gather daily is limited to one small classroom, making conditions for proper care a bit cramped. This need for more space has sparked Khaya Cheshire’s wish to double its classroom size to be able to offer children with the targeted age and ability appropriate education and development. As the centre currently receives no government funding, and with day to day running costs on the increase, the only way Khaya Cheshire will be able to raise enough funds for this expansion is through kind donations from corporate and private sponsors.
With a total target of R120 000 needed to complete the building project, and with seed money of R40 000 having already been secured through the efforts of the Tavcor Motor Group, the remainder of R80 000 is the target that The Little Red Classroom needs to raise to complete the expansion. Khaya Cheshire hopes to have the additional classroom space finished by May 2012, before Winter sets in, to be able to give the children a comfortable and secure space to learn in.
All donations in kind and financial would be appreciated. Please contact Megan Stow, HR Manager or Hilary Bolton, Cheshire Homes Co-ordinator for more details. Alternatively payment can be made in the Cheshire homes bank account. Please use “Little Red Classroom” as the reference.
