Tavcor and the Plett Ocean Festival: Investing in Coastal Communities and Conservation

For more than seven decades, Tavcor has been part of the Eastern Cape and Garden Route story. Founded in Gqeberha, the company has grown alongside the communities it serves, building a reputation not only as a trusted automotive retailer but also as a business committed to making a meaningful contribution to society and the environment.

That commitment extends far beyond the showroom floor. Throughout its history, Tavcor has recognised that successful businesses have a responsibility to invest in the wellbeing of their communities and to help preserve the natural environments that sustain them. From supporting local charities and community initiatives to environmental programmes, beach clean-ups, and marine conservation efforts through organisations such as SANCCOB, Tavcor has consistently sought opportunities to create a positive and lasting impact.

This philosophy is what makes Tavcor’s partnership with the fifth edition of the Plett Ocean Festival such a natural fit.

Taking place from 3 –12 July 2026, the festival has become one of South Africa’s leading cele er the theme “Observe. Conserve. Preserve.”, the festival brings together scientists, conservationists, educators, businesses, residents, and visitors to deepen understanding of the marine environm brations of ocean conservation, marine science, education, and responsible tourism. Undent and inspire collective action to protect it.

A key highlight of this year’s programme is the Marine Science Symposium from 10–12 July, which creates a platform for leading experts, researchers, and ocean advocates to share knowledge and explore solutions to some of the most pressing challenges facing our oceans. Tavcor is particularly proud to support the symposium and to host renowned ocean advocate, freediver, and author Zandile Ndhlovu, whose work continues to inspire South Africans to connect with and protect the ocean.

As a business with a strong footprint across the Garden Route through its dealerships in Knysna, George, and Mossel Bay, Tavcor understands the profound importance of healthy oceans and thriving coastal ecosystems to the region’s identity, economy, and future. The coastline is not only one of South Africa’s greatest natural assets; it is central to the livelihoods, tourism industry, and quality of life enjoyed by local communities.

“At Tavcor, we believe that businesses have an important role to play in supporting the communities and environments that support us,” says Megan Stow, Director. “The Plett Ocean Festival embodies values that are closely aligned with our own commitment to responsible corporate citizenship, environmental stewardship, education, and community development. We are honoured to partner with the festival and support initiatives that encourage greater awareness, appreciation, and protection of our oceans for future generations.”

The partnership reflects Tavcor’s broader approach to corporate social investment — one that focuses on creating meaningful, long-term value through education, conservation, and community engagement. By supporting initiatives that inspire environmental responsibility and connect people with nature, Tavcor hopes to contribute to a future where economic growth and environmental sustainability go hand in hand.

As the Plett Ocean Festival continues to grow in influence and impact, Tavcor is proud to stand alongside the organisers, conservation partners, scientists, and community members who are working to ensure that South Africa’s oceans remain protected and celebrated for generations to come.

Because preserving our coastline is not only about safeguarding a natural resource — it is about protecting a shared heritage, strengthening communities, and investing in a sustainable future.
