25-Years of playing the long game | Craig Dunnington

In the month of May 2024, we are celebrating two and a half decades of employment for Craig Dunnington, an Internationally certified Sales Executive at Tavcor Volkswagen, William Moffett, who is also a qualified Sales Manager and Fleet Sales Executive. We delve into the story of a man whose career exemplifies hard work, dedication, and the power of building deep customer relationships. Craig’s journey in the motor industry is a testament to the idea that success comes from a combination of a go-getter attitude, relentless consistency, teamwork, and ultimately, an unwavering commitment to the customer.

“Hard work and consistency are not just buzzwords; they are the principles that have shaped my professional journey,” Craig shares. His career at Tavcor began in 1999 as an intern, amidst the Y2K frenzy, a time that, for many, symbolized a period of significant change and uncertainty. However, for Craig, it marked the starting point of a remarkable journey in an industry known for its rigorous challenges and competitive nature.

Hungry for success and eager to learn, Craig started to climb the ladder of success in his career with a humble heart and a passion for cars and people. Easy to say that it was a match made in heaven, fitting right into Tavcor’s values-driven approach in the community and motor industry since 1950.

Craig joined the sales team at Tavcor Motor Groups Audi Dealership at first as an intern. He had a great task of proving himself amongst his colleagues who were much older than him and had a great amount of experience, but he did not let that intimidate him or stop his determination to succeed. Craig expanded his horizons within Tavcor and joined the Tavcor MasterCars team. Within the first month as a MasterCars Sales Executive, Craig managed to sell a well-rounded number of 10 cars in only 20 days. Thereafter he joined the Volkswagen dealership and worked amongst great people who helped mould him into the experienced professional he is today.

Clive Taverner saw great potential in Craig and entrusted him to take on the role of the New Car Sales Manager when they opened their first Suzuki dealership in 2009. His philosophy on sales leans heavily on a passion for the product and genuine care for the customer’s best interest. “I managed the Suzuki branch, and it taught me valuable lessons. The mistakes made were as important as the victories because they were learning opportunities that propelled my growth,” he reflects.

Over the years, Craig has not only demonstrated an exceptional talent for sales but also a profound understanding of customer needs and a unique ability to forge lasting relationships. “Building a connection with clients goes beyond business transactions. It’s about creating meaningful interactions, understanding their needs deeply, and providing solutions that go above and beyond their expectations,” he recounts.

One of the hallmarks of Craig’s career is his knack for turning challenges into opportunities. The motor industry has faced its fair share of difficulties, from economic downturns to technological disruptions. Craig’s approach? A mix of optimism, adaptability, and a focus on the fundamentals of sales and customer service.

“The industry is facing tough times, but it’s in these moments that our resilience is tested,” Craig points out. He encourages fellow sales executives to remain steadfast, innovative, and most importantly, connected to their customers and their needs. “There’s no shortcut to success in this business. It’s about putting in the work, day in and day out, and never losing sight of the reason we do what we do – to serve our clients and make a difference in their lives.”

Craig’s contribution to Tavcor Motor Group goes beyond sales. He’s a mentor, a leader, and a friend to many in the organization. His story is one of inspiration, not just for sales professionals within the motor industry but for anyone aiming for success through dedication, perseverance, and a positive attitude.

As we celebrate his 25th work anniversary at Tavcor Motor Group, Craig’s journey serves as a beacon of inspiration. It underscores the importance of hard work, teamwork, and building relationships. These are the cornerstones of a successful career in the motor industry and beyond. Craig Dunnigton’s legacy at Tavcor Motor Group is a powerful reminder of what can be achieved with passion, perseverance, and a customer-centric attitude.

If you’re in sales, you have to play the long game and manage your customers to consistently reach your targets. If today was a bad day, fine. It is what it is, but do not let today affect your productivity and mindset tomorrow. Each day is a new opportunity, being successful is a choice, and with a go-getter attitude, no single person or challenge can stand in your way. Being successful is a choice.
