Tavcor TAG Team Supports Phakamisa High School Grade 12 Study Camp Initiative

Tavcor TAG Team Supports Phakamisa High School Grade 12 Study Camp Initiative

Phakamisa High School, located in one of Port Elizabeth’s poverty-stricken communities, has faced numerous socio-economic challenges since its formation in April 2016. The school was created through the merger of Lwazilwethu SS and Thembalabantu SS, both accommodating a total of 1,415 learners from grades 8 to 12. Amidst difficulties that affected students’ academic performance, the school sought effective solutions to achieve improved results.

In 2019, the school initiated a camp for their grade 12 learners which proved successful in enhancing academic outcomes – taking the school out of the Matric Intervention Program (MIP) after years of struggle. Due to the financial constraints caused by Covid-19 in the following years, the camp was halted.

Despite these challenges, Phakamisa High School’s class of 2023 persisted in requesting the revival of this camp. Dr. Ngxesha stepped in to organize the event scheduled for October 29th through December 5th, 2023. The camp will be hosted at Phakamisa High and accommodate all 103 grade 12 learners.

Dedication and willpower

The school’s recent trial exam camps demonstrated notable success with pass rates increasing from 71% to an impressive 79.4%, despite ongoing financial struggles. Recognizing this potential, the Tavcor Motor Group TAG Team stepped up to support Phakamisa High School’s drive by donating much-needed groceries for their cause. These donations are invaluable investments into our communities youth and future.

Phakamisa Senior Secondary School’s school principal, Mr. TP Plaatjie, and its students expressed immense gratitude for TAG Team’s generosity. Being able to assist them was an absolute honour.

Get involved

We extend an invitation to anyone who is able and willing to support this valuable initiative, please reach out to Mr. TP Plaatjie to make a difference in the lives of these determined students. Together, we can cultivate a brighter future and inspire hope and kindness within our communities.
